I've just put together my rebuilt '85 16V turbo engine, and I'm a bit
confused about the vacuum/pressure connections. At what point in the
system is the pressure positive (greater than atmospheric) ? Is it
only upstream of the throttle plate ?
The brakes, heater control, etc. need a negative pressure (vacuum,
less than atmospheric pressure) to operate properly. They get their
vacuum from the intake manifold plenum. What protects them from
receiving a positive pressure when the turbo kicks in ? Is there a
check valve somewhere ?
Yeah, there's a vacuum diagram on the donor car, but it's pretty
sketchy and incomplete. I'd like to understand the system well enough
to *know* that it's right.
Thanks,
Jeff
