Let's look at it from the girls point of view. Now plenty of us know guys that restore cars. They're in every town across America, and sometime you'll see woman driving these machines their husbands probably built.
Notice that I said THEIR HUSBANDS, because I think a wife would probably be more likely to drive such a made-in-garage machine than say would be a girlfrined or even a potential girlfriend. The problem(age depending)is that girls/women judge men too often on what they have/drive, and if it's not something that they can show-off/impress to their friends then it's the he's a looser attitude. All woman are differnt though so it can be hard to say for sure that she's such a person but, they all like to show off IMHO. Shallow I tell you, just plain shallow but MEN will appreciate your efforts as I do.
Her idea(BMW)is probably of a 01-02 model year 325i or better @$35,000+ but, I'm more like you as I can appreciate the older cars just as well. That's something that most women can't do very well or you'd see more of them interested in the classics cars as we are.
In the end I think she'll think you're just a cheap person or you don't have a dime to afford something better. Again, the whole shallow/superficial thing coming through.. You're better off telling the truth and letting things flow as they may. In the end you'll keep you're dignity intact at least. It's never a good thing to lie, even to your own benefit, cause the truth always comes out....Sell yourself instead.
The best part of it all is, if you're anything like me; you'll be driving around in the biggest piece of crap and she'll be all turned off by it. Then when she gives me the cold shoulder and all that mess, I'll show up in my other car. It'll be something smooth like a NEW BMW or whatever.. That get's them hating everytime...
Good Luck,
Phil
P.S. I've been with my wife for 5 yrs now, she still won't drive my 93' 900T to work and it looks new. Said it's embarrassing? I gave up and got her a Eclipse GST Spyder...
