It's a serious grind. Like if you were driving down the road and suddenly tried to throw it into reverse. Sometimes, the grind is minimal, but there's a huge engine-dropping "clunk!" when I put it in reverse. Sometimes I do the trick with stopping the car, pulling forward one more inch, then throwing it in reverse. Other times, I'll turn the car off first, then put it in reverse to get the key out. Either way is a hack that avoids getting to the root of the problem. It's hard to loan it to a friend with babysitting like that required.
