I agree that JB Weld has its place and is fantastic stuff ... but its still epoxy "plastic based" AND the area of concern here is the outer edge of the cylinder that the Metal sealing ring of the head gasket contacts and forms a pressure seal. The case I demonstrated was a mild one compared to the first one I did. If the heat damaged the block bore ...I should have negative feedback with oil consumption or low compression problems in the #1 cylinder. As of yet I have had none.
Im willing to bet the repaired engines will have a full happy life.
I dont think dissimular metals and electrolis is the problem cause here. I think its more of a case of antifreeze turning into a pickling soloution and the acidic action eating the metals.
BTW Anders ....What a nice tool box. One pillow and blanket and you could sleep in it! HEY .... Start checking all 9-5 front calliper mounting bolts "18MM" they coming loose for some reason. I had a 2000 9-5 aero in today "24,000 miles" that sounded like a bad shock. All most fell over when I turned both bolts in 2 turns for contact and another 1/2 turn to torque.
