Question concerning alternator/starter wiring Posted by Jake [Email] (#225) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jake) on Wed, 24 Jul 2002 12:32:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am looking to upgrade my wiring from my alternator-->pos. battery terminal, the neg. battery terminal-->chassis, and the neg. battery terminal-->engine block. I am going to be upgrading all of these to 4 guage for my audio system, and the only one that I am apprehensive about is the alternator-->pos. battery terminal. A wire runs from the alternator to the starter, and then from the starter to the pos. battery terminal. My question is; did Saab do that just as a jumper wire, so they wouldn't have to run 2 separate wires? Or does the starter need a constant supply of 13.8 volts from the alternator? I wouldn't think that the starter would NEED this wire from the alternator. My plan is to leave the wire that runs from the pos. battery terminal to the starter, remove the jumper wire that runs from the alternator to the starter, and to run my new 4 ga. wire from the alternator to the pos. battery terminal.. Will this work out alright?
TIA,
Jake
