The pass floor of my SPG had begun to rust from repeated unseen soakings by a clogged A/C evaporator drain. It was surface rust from water that had gotten in the cracked floorboard sealer (rubbery stuff) and bubbled it up. I discovered it when I replaced carpet this summer and peeled the sealer and loose rust off, hit it with a wire brush and POR15 to kill it. Then top coated it again with undercoat goo. An infrequent rainstorm soaking will eventually dry out, but Jim's right about that carpet underlayment. The rubber top and foam back really traps the water.
