My 1987 900t leaked quite a bit of power steering fluid, although not as much as you describe. The biggest leak I found was at the ends of the supply hose which leads from the reservoir down to the unit. Each end has a hose clamp on it, which tends to loosen.
I tightened the hose clamps (not easy to reach, and you need good light to see them - easiest with a 7mm socket on a 1/4 inch drive, but you can use a screwdriver in a pinch). Careful on the plastic reservoir, since you don't want to crack it.
I also recommend going to a hand-spray type car wash. Once there you can spray the power steering unit very well with engine degreaser (the purple stuff you get at Pep Boys works especially well) and let it sit for awhile per the instructions, then use the power sprayer to remove the gunk. I had to do it twice to really get it clean.
Once it is clean, and you have tightened the hose clamps, see where the remaining leaks are. In my case, there is a small leak left at the seal where the steering column penetrates the case of the power steering unit, but it is a very slow leak and I decided it isn't worth the effort to fix that one.
