Don't think it's the Fuel Pump Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Thu, 24 Oct 2002 12:25:26 In Reply to: Re: Car stalled at stop light and won't start....what now?, pursang, Wed, 23 Oct 2002 18:39:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When mine started failing, it started making a lot of noise and the engine power would fall off - but not die completely, plobably due to running on residual pressure. I replaced it and the problem disappeared. I would guess that you have an electrical problem, perhaps the ignition amplifier module?????? Does the fuel pump sound like it is working?
On cars after some time in '83, the pre pump fills up a smaller chamber that the main pump draws from. My guess is that if the chamber is filled (i.e. an almost full tank), that a prepump failure would make no difference at a stoplight, but I'm not sure about this (I have an '83).
