Eventually it will fall apart, at which time you will have no water pump.
You can do this yourself if you have a Bentley manual and some patience. try searching on "harmonic balancer" without the #@*$!. There are many entries regarding difficulty and cost. If you choose to farm the work out, it's best handled by a SAAB specialist rather than a general mechanic.
The reason for the balancer failure is probably a good oil soaking from a worn crank seal. That should be replaced as well as the oil pump o-ring. The balancer is still available for your year, unlike my '83 which must be rebuilt. Purchase from a site sponsor if you can.
Good luck. It's not a huge problem. It won't cost that much.
