I looked for hi temp sealant and put it in the two slots at the ends of the metal gasket. There is a reason to use a new metal gasket. It has some type of shellack film on it that might seal the surfaces after it warms up. In my opinion, replacing the tranny is too much labor to risk using an old gasket when a new one is probably $10-$15
