'88 900 turbo conv. So I'm coming back from an A's game in Oakland last night. It's 12:30 AM and I'm southbound on highway 101 about 40 miles from home when it feels like somebody broadsided me. Then it feels like a blowout but much more difficult to control. Thank God there was no one around me and I managed to get it stopped and on the shoulder. The left front wheel is radically out of caster and camber from the right. A flashlight reveals that the lower control arm has snapped right at the point where the aft arm connects to the frame. The good news is that no one's hurt, and except for the control arm, the car's OK. I went to my local Pick-n-pull this AM, got a replacement control arm and installed it on the side of the highway today. All back home now but still shook-up and quite a bit less confident in the supposed safety of these cars we love so much. This car has been babied since new. Never been in a wreck or hit a curb and NO rust. I find it inexcusable that a control arm can just break, I don't care if it is 15 years old. I recall some posts now about fractures in control arms, but I thought that was at one of the welds. I will be researching this some and will probably buy new control arms for both sides. Anyone else have an experience like this? Thanks, Kenzo
