WK--
It sounds like you are maybe a bit disillusioned about radio, but don't let a stations that didn't work out turn you off. Similar jobs at different places can be night and day becuz of politics and corporate cultures.
In 27 yrs since college, I've been both an employee and my own boss. Both have pluses and negatives. At your age you should take advantage of appealing opportunities when they come along, because at some point you may well wind up married with kids and a mortgage which can limit you a bit.
I'm self-employed now and would be hard-pressed to go back to being an employee, and I recommend self-employment to anyone who has the desire. But you gotta have desire and a focus to stick to whatever you do--and the flexibility to adapt as needed. IMHO, self emplyment is the best form of job security. That said, as you get rolling it's good to have "multiple revenue streams" so you have a reasonable chance of staying afloat thru the lean times. So do some wrenching, get a gig at a radio station, even be a liftie at a ski area. And look for opportunities and try to do things for work that make you happy. Life is waay to short to do something you don't enjoy.
Good luck, dude.
