I'm old enough to remember when radio was fun to listen to and every station had it's own character and flavor. Anyone who's ever had a job within radio (and who's written a book about it) mention a series of hirings and firings. It seems to be a hallmark of that business. The right fit seems to be a matter of time, or a lowering of personal standards. I do work in the video production business, which CAN be worthwhile and lucrative depending on several factors, one being location of business. It can also be a boring, soul sapping grind surrounded by geeky tech types, bad clients, has-been aging actors wanting to make a come back, and junk equipment. Knowledge of craft, creativity and independence goes a long way and often pays off in this biz. Oftentimes, the people who seem most happy are those on the periphery - the equipment engineers and suppliers, as they don't have to deal with the day to day frustrations that studio owners face. I too had to face a decision when I was in my late 20's to either continue working in the secure family construction business in N.E. Ohio, or to make a move to Los Angeles and "go for it." I went for it, almost came back crawling, but stuck it out and managed to forge my own niche. The future is bright. When I made the move, I didn't have a secure plan which was the main reason for a period of struggle. If I had a position of job security such as what you're being offered, I'm sure things would have been different. As far as radio goes, with satellite radio fast becoming the new wave, how much better will the earth bound stations get in terms of work and security? Good luck!
