Hey John-
I made my way thru my undergraduate degree as a Jag wrench, and believe me, I understand your statement about the ’89! Just as the series III XJ’s were finally achieving the well-deserved status of “good cars”, Ford had to go and let them release the XJ40 without extensive testing! Don’t get me wrong; I love XJ40’s (I was always partial to ‘88’s with the four headlamps), but talk about electrical nightmares! I think my least favorite (besides the collapsing rear springs or the 12+ hours to replace the rear differential), was that darn information screen on the dash either putting up “Brake Pads”, “ABS” or “Bulb Failure”. Too many hours spent on rectifying those pesky things! Not a better in-line six cylinder made by way of smoothness and they had some serious getup once you hit 40 or so (especially compared to series III XJ’s). Outstanding automobiles, no matter what anyone says!
(I also don't miss doing V-12 tuneup's, uh....where did you say the spark plugs were?????)
Great fun!
