Well I hestitaed to post until I actually passed and I did today here in the SF bay area. Things have changed and are much more stringent. The car is a black '89 SPG which I bought 14 months ago as a leaking mess that barely passed smog. Since then i've done the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, exhaust, O2 sensor etc.etc. and a ton of other work, but still was a little leary as my time was coming up.
Last night I took off the SPG9 rrfpr and put on a 2.5 bar fpr. I left the 24# fuel injectors and stage II apc box. Changed my oil/filter and poured this stuff into my gas tank I bought from IPD called Lubro Moly Fuel System Cleaner, prepares you car for smog test by reducing exhaust emissions. Added this to a full tank of gas and drove about 30 miles on the freeway to warm my car up.
I pull into the smog station and they now put your car onto a roller type device where your front wheels actually spin when they measure the emissions at 15 and 25mph. They also checked the timing which they never did before, and also the gas cap they attached it to some sort of insturment to measure it's seal. The guy failed me on a visual because of my K&N air filter! I should have known so I had to drive home and put on the oem snorkel and go back, then he passsed me.
Here are my #'s:
15mph HC(ppm) max-116; meas-27, CO(%) max-0.74; meas-0.10, N0(ppm) max-871; meas-403
25mph HC(ppm) max-91; meas-40, CO(%) max-0.62; meas-0.12, NO(ppm) max-804; meas-277
I guess my suggestion would be to try one of these additives. I am not sure if it was the additive or all the work I did on the car that made it pass. I would also make sure your car is really warm when you bring it in, don't shut it off let it idle and let the fans cycle.
Good luck.
Cliff
