There's lots of mass and lots of area for heat transfer. Compare the amount of power going into the heater (a couple or three hundred watts? a KW?) to the power rating of the engine (a 200 hp is between 100 and 150 KW) The gas engine is maybe 20-30% efficient at full power, so all the rest of the energy (200-300KW) goes into heat, and at least half of that goes into the cooling system (the rest goes into the exhaust). Sure, you're moving when you're running full power, but still the heater is putting in maybe a half percent of the heat that the engine does.
Now if it were me, I'd hook the block heater to a timer, rather than let it run all night, just to save money.
