So after I bought my SPG this summer I have become a frequent listener here, and upon your collective recommendation bought some Honda MTL and a new diff cover gasket to flush the gear oil from my high-mileage (well, history on the car is nil so perhaps it has been rebuilt) transmission.
The job sounded easy enough but being intimidated by the potential to screw something up (like crossthreading a bolt), and since this is the car I've ever worked I put it off. Well, I finally decided to do it today and found something that was useful. The job actually seems easy enough, just remove the eight 12mm screws, clean out the cover, reinstall, fill, repeat, using new gasket on final reinstall. Anyway, people have complained about the uppermost righthand screw right next to the shift rod being a pain to remove. Indeed I spent 15 minutes inching it out, until I realized that all you have to do to get to it is to shift the car into 3rd gear! This moves the rubber obstace in front of the screw head enough to get a socket or ratchet wrench. Makes this job a piece of cake. I don't know if others knew about this but just wanted to share.
One question: my diff cover has no magnet or filter as others have mentioned, is this normal on some trannies? Thanks,
Ram
