Cruise control broken when clutch master cyl replaced

The mechanics put in a new master cylinder and I believe some kind of pin related to the clutch down near the cruise control switches.
When I got the car back cruise control did not work at all so I took the car back and they said they had forgot to reconnect it and something to do with the pin being in the way a little. The mechanic gave the pin a bit (I think)of a bash and reconnectd cruise control.
Now cruise control does not work most of the time. If it does "suck on" the speed mostly decreases slower than if there was no acceleration but still quiet quickly. Sometimes after putting it on especially around hills the car speeds up and slows down then eventually just starts slowing down and sometimes (always in the afternoon I think) it works just fine. They are going to replace the switch next service but they have had a look at it and think it is fine. They dont know what is wrong with it. If anyone has any idea as to what might be wrong I'd love to hear from you. Thanks Sarah.
