It sure sounds like a vacuum leak Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Tue, 12 Oct 2004 11:57:16 In Reply to: emissions failures, Doug D., Tue, 12 Oct 2004 09:40:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
as well as a possible timing issue.
The simple thing to do is to do the vacuum hose one at a time. Take one end off, put new hose onto the nipple you took the old one off of, go to the other end of the hose, pull it off, trim to match, and install the other end.
I haven't seen any comprehensive point-to-point hose diagrams. It would be nice to have.
It's also possible that your catalytic converter is bad - there have been many postings about fixing high NOx readings with a new converter.
Another thing people have done is to put a pint of denatured alcohol in a half tank of gas the day before your retest. It lowers combustion chamber temperatures, reducing NOxs.
