Experienced a curious enraged driver moment yesterday while driving in LA rush hour traffic. There's a well known canyon route which cuts across the hills that seperate the city proper and the valley. It's always heavily travelled and can make for a hellish drive if you're stuck on the upside having to use your clutch constantly while traffic inches along. The main reason for the slow going at times is because of the two lane road narrowing down to one lane just near the crest before it begins to head downhill. Standard etiquette for anyone who drives that route regularly is to allow drivers to merge in a lengthy section designated specifically for that purpose. Heading into the merge area I had the lead over a newish big a** truck with dual wheels (four total) on the rear end. To make sure I had even more room so as not to upset the truck driver before I slipped in front of him, I spooled up the turbo for some zip. But for whatever reason, truck dude decided to challenge me, in effect keeping me from merging. It's perhaps the worst thing you could do to any driver at that point on the route as far as driver etiquette goes. Still with the lead and gaining over him, I safely merged. Well, truck boy didn't like that at all and proceeded to rush my rear end, honking his horn and applying the brights. For some 100 yards or so he kept it up, pi**ed as all get out that I beat him. Pushed to my limit I decided to let him know to back off by putting on the brakes. That only made things worse. So then I had no choice but to open the sun roof and let the bird fly high. I held that bird high for a good minute as we cruised downhill, his brights illuminating it in grand style. Then we came to a stop and all I could hear was profanity and his enraged cracking voice. At that point I locked the doors. I next help up my cel phone and initialled in the air "9-1-1." Soon after, truck boy turned off the road. The most important thing I hope to illustrate from telling this story is that my C900 beat his big a** truck to the merge.
