One more SPG goes into retirement... Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Mon, 14 Feb 2005 21:03:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This evening, I drove my '86 SPG out to a farm where a family friend is permitting me to dismantle it over the summer. Impending transmission doom and rust in the front end have brought the car to the end of its service life after 243,000 miles.
I'll be replacing it as a daily driver with my first ever non-SAAB vehicle, a work truck- GM 2500 rear-drive pickup with a Reading tool cap, loaded with ladders, tools, spools of wire, and satellite TV systems. Hopefully, I'll be driving a c900 again sometime within the next year or so. I'm going to take some time to find a rust-free turbo that I can turn into an '86 SPG lookalike with the parts scavenged from this one.
I've put a bunch of good parts into it recently, so now I get to "un-install" the brakes, springs, and exhaust system. I removed all of the stereo gear this afternoon. I'll be saving the entire interior, window motors, fuel pump(s), SPG body kit, bumpers, radiator, all exterior lights, power antenna, battery, ignition parts, distributor, intercooler, turbo, APC box, K&N intake, Koni shocks, and ECU.
If anyone out there needs a perfectly good motor or cylinder head- let me know. I won't be doing much parting out until the weather warms up and the days get longer.
I miss driving it already- that car was really fun.
