There's an O-ring between the inner housing and the piston and another O-ring between the outer housing and the piston. Both of those O-rings go in grooves in the piston.
The kit contains 3 O-rings.
To disassemble the slave, I've always pushed the piston backwards into the assembly with my thumbs, holding the main part of the slave near the mounting holes with my fingers. The piston and inner housing push out the back.
