I am fairly new in the Saab fold, but I recently purchased a very clean one owner 900 notchback coupe. On close inspection of the wiring in the engine bay, I found that some of the wiring had nearly all of its insulation deteriorated to the point that it was bare in many places. I began opening up the harness and was shocked that almost the entire harness was badly damaged, yet everything on the car continued to work. I repaired the harness myself, and as far as I can tell this should work. The damage appears to have been caused by the potting compound they used to seal the joints in the wire harness. Everywhere there was a seam sealed with this waxy compound the harness was damaged. Specific colors of wire seemed to be most affected, notably white and grey, where as other colors appear un damaged. I am not sure how much of the rest of the car may have this damage, but my preliminary inspection hasnt turned up any other problem spots. I feel like the damage is a result of the compound and the heat of the engine bay working together. I guess time will tell.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
