7:20PM, driving home from work, northbound I-75, left lane, cruising speed (75ish), clear and beautiful, kinda busy with traffic coming north from the Bengals game. I'm in the "spare" SPG, the one I picked up last month, and it's just humming along as nice as any 900 I've ever driven. In the center lane is a bigass red Olds Bravada, also cruising along at about 70ish, just off my right rear quarter. Right lane is wide open. Just as I passed under I-675, this white Ford Exploder with Ohio tags driven by a dirty bleach blonde comes screaming up right on my ass doing about a bazillion and ten MHP, jumps right two lanes, passes both me and the Olds in the right lane, then jumps back across both of us to about 60ft. in front of me. This annoys me a great deal, so I kindly salute her with a single upraised digit out the sunroof and a bit of hand-waving. She returns the sentiments by locking up her brakes hard enough to fishtail a bit. THIRTY FEET IN FRONT OF ME.
Naturally, this concerns me a bit, so I take evasive action. All four wheels hit the grass in the left median, and while correcting to avoing the massive bridge abutment approaching fast, I found myself very quickly back on I-75, drifting with driver's door pointing ahead, 90 degrees to the flow of traffic. W h ich is when the Bravada hit me, still doing 70ish. We slipped and skidded to the right grass, and I climbed out the sunroof to take these here pics on my phone:

The SPG is a total loss, naturally. No full coverage, damn it, only liability. If you look closely, it has the MC 850 tags on it since it hadn't yet passed Echeck (fortunately, the state trooper didn't notice it at
all.) Whew! I got a cut on my right temple and across my nose, and a stiff neck that required about a jillion x-rays to say I had a stiff neck. I sit here still in my work clothes, covered in broken glass, shaking and in shock. I have some fine meds but probably won't take them, as I Really need to be back at work in the AM. FOrtunately, I have another SPG to drive.
Not so fortunate, they're not going after the white Ford and instead gave me a ticket for failure to control. Nothing like a visit to a judge to add insult to injury.
Notes:
- the key was bent over completely by the passenger seat. When I went to the yard to get my keys out, it took me and two beefy tow truck drivers all pulling on the seat frame to bend it back enough where I could get my hand in there. While I was bending the key back and forth to break it free, the engine fired up - and ran like a top. GO figure.
- If you look at one of those pics, you'll see the RF wheel cocked at an unholy angle. I do hope I can salvage all four wheels and rubber, they are en excellent shape. THe right side skirts, however, are not so lucky.
- Every single person who has seen me walking around the wreck, including medics, cops, firefighters, truck drivers and tow truck drivers, were all stunned that I was in the car. They were convinced I would be mangled, not vertical.
- Had she not hit me, I would have rolled that car. Multiple times. At high speed. I am so very grateful that she DID hit me for this very reason.
IF she hadn't, I can't imagine that I'd be sitting here writing this now. I was belted in, but with an open driver's window and sunroof, would I have been safe rolling 6 or 7 times at 70MPH? The mind reels. As it is, the worst that happened was my TSN ballhat was knocked off, as you can see it in the pass. seat in one of the pics
All in all, an exciting day. Thanks to all you who called, it meant a great deal to me while I was sitting there in the ER hurrying up to wait. Now off to go shower broken glass and dried blood out of my hair...
