Sorry to see your car but glad you're okay.
Another SAAB survival story with a happier ending :
My '86 900 SPG was about two years old when my wife and I were returning to Los Angeles from a trip to Yellowstone. We were travelling south on old Highway 1 between Lompoc and Santa Barbara - it's a great two lane drive through the mountains along the coast.
We were cruising along at 65 and enjoying the scenery when all of a sudden, there were two cars headed toward us on a blind curve. I didn't have much time but noticed that the car coming fast and straight at us in our lane was a green Mercury Marquis. In a split second decision, I took the only option I had: leave the road and head up a twenty degree hill side. As the Mercury went by, missing us by no more than a foot, I saw four guys in the car all laughing and having a great time.
My SPG was steady as a rock, arching across the hill side through tall grass and pulling back onto the highway without missing a beat. I slowed down and pulled off the road and as we were sitting there, I noticed that that great car was calmly idling like nothing had happened. It took on a magical quality in my altered state of mind and I thanked it for saving our lives.
As we continued our drive, it was clear that my SPG had probably not only saved our lives but those of four idiots as well. It's a great car.
