In small gas turbines used in aircraft for auxiliary power, we would make sure that there was a slight negative pressure inside the gearbox. Even set up a pressure differential switch to monitor it so it was always negative relative to the atmospheric pressure. This was to prevent the gearbox from expelling oil -- if the box is pressurized, it will force oil out and eventually lose it all leading to a catastrophic failure. Maybe that explanation will help you see the benefits of a proper PCV. My oil leaks either stopped, or were slowed to a minimum after I didn't have manifold pressure in the crankcase.
