Harold,
If I read you correctly, you are comparing your motor to other similar ones you have driven and yours comes up short. Question: Does it feel like the power falls off after 3500 rpm or does it just feel rough? If it's the latter, it could be something as simple as a bad engine mount. If I recall correctly, your year has fluid filled mounts. If one of those babies loses the fluid, it's worthless. The motor will transmit every vibration directly to the unibody and you'll feel that through the steering wheel, the pedals, and the seat.
If you're losing power, it could be as simple as a fuel filter needing replacement or an undetected vacuum leak causing a lean condition. Also, left your hood at night and look for any elctrical arcing. Your spark may be going to ground on one of your cylinders at high rpms.
Good luck.
JD
