I just find this interesting. The ball tracks spiral around the inside of the CV housing and develop pockets in the middle where the balls dwell while going straight ahead. When you turn - the balls roll the length of their track with every axle/CV revolution and clank as they pass over the wear pocket. So the rebuilders grind the spiral tracks a little wider and deeper and then reassemble them with a new central component and bigger balls. A little wear on the central (drive) component usually equates to deep wear pockets in the tracks of the outer (driven) unit. Cheers.
