thanks. i may give the bolt method a shot later today. for now, i had to drive the car to the t-station, about 5 mile in slow traffic. the nut is currently on with red loctite and will hopefully hold for the 5 mile drive back home this afternoon. i don't believe that nut receives a lot of force from the movement of the shock, but i don't want to take chances on the highway.
i was concerned with cutting new threads on the stud as it appears you have to get the a-arm off to run the die around it (sway bar in the way). the drilling and tapping of the stud seems a much easier solution.
