If it leaks or burns a lot of oil now, changing to synthetic wouldn't be the way to go. If it is sound now, go ahead. I've changed a number of Saabs to AMSOIL with over 100,000 miles on them.
I recommend using a good engine flush first--best I know of are made by AMSOIL and BG. If you have time to put on some miles, check out Auto-Rx.
If you don't, or won't, use a flush, check your dipstick fairly often. If you note a sudden increase in oil consumption, change the filter and top off. This will usually take care of the problem. You might want to drop the first batch after 3-5,000 miles anyhow.
