Here's a wacky "what's it worth" Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Fri, 30 Jun 2006 16:33:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In the first, I am still not convinced I am going to go through with this. But, I'm thinking about selling my 1980 900T 5-door. I've just kind of lost momentum on the project, and a Mazda RX2 has really piqued my interest. So, I'm kinda looking for peoples' thoughts on what something like my 5-door might be worth...
I won't go into the gory details, but here's the basics:
o 1980 5-door, white on green, unknown mileage, but around 210k
o body is mostly straight, but has been hit lightly in the rear right corner, and the doors have "skin" damage. The hit is a $200 job according to a local reputable body shop, excluding paint. The doors would simply be replaced (which I happen to have...).
o there is some surface rust here and there, but the only notable spots are two dime-sized ones, one under the rear hatch glass, one under the right rear quarter-window. I have a replacement hatch.
Other than that, it's normal (if not better than normal) wear and tear. The important bits:
o 16vT from a 1988 SPG
o 16vT power steering, oil cooler, everything
o Brakes from a 1987 900T (vented fronts)
o Full SPG suspension
o 2.5" exhaust
o Battery relocation to trunk (which has been totally refinished, btw)
o LH 2.4 fuel injection from a 1990 900T
o Hall-Effect ignition from a 1988 SPG
o APC from a 1988 SPG
o 16x7" wheels
o e-code headlights, hella 500 driving lights, and bosch pilot fog lights (with neato Saab grilles)
o Airdam and grille from an '85 900T
o Addco swaybar in front, 16vT swaybar in back
This car is basically done - I drive it all the time. I just replaced all the front balljoints, and both sides' wheel bearings. It's 100% reliable... The things a new owner would want to do:
o Repaint it
o Refinish the interior (although it looks pretty good... )
o Get it through CA BAR (my major stumbling point, just due to lack of time - it has been inspected, it just needs to be smogged at this point)
How does someone go about even setting a price for something like this? I realize ebay is an option, I just hate the idea of selling something so personal so impersonnally. Has anyone bought or sold a 5-door lately who might have some insight? I've owned this car for eight years now and put a ton of sweat into it - I don't want to sell it, but I hate seeing it languish unused most of the time...Argh.
