DJ,
Inner drivers are shot when "dents" develop on the thrust surfaces of the slots where the tripod bearing resides. These can be easily detected by feeling those six flat surfaces with a finger after the axle and tripod bearing are drawn out (though your finger will get all greasy). The "dents" can develop on either the drive or coast surface or both but undesirable motion of the tripod bearing will result in any case. If you have a vibration when accelerating (hard) in a straight line you have either a bad inner driver or tripod bearing, of either one or both axles. If your inner drivers are free of "dents" then examine the tripod bearings very closely although with a serious symptom you'll likely find a tripod bearing that is missing needles and falling apart. Check out the outer CV while the axle is out too. Lack of lube there can cause some vibration even when going straight ahead. Cheers
