I would recheck the mechanical cam timing with respect to the crank. Be sure the timing marks all line up when cylinder #1 is at TDC. Remember the crank is the driving shaft and the cams are the driven shafts. If you turn by the cam shafts, you can be fooled into thinking everything is ok. Also remember the chain tensioner is on the slack side of the chain. Mechanical timing can be adjusted by removing the valve cover and timing chain tensioner allowing you to jump teeth on the cam sprockets. Check and recheck because 1 tooth offset appears almost the same as being right on the money.
