eEuroparts d/s axle, the conclusion Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Tue, 29 May 2007 14:55:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
so it seems the missing half a inch is in the shaft.
and if you noticed the way the tripod was attached to the back of the axle, there was a c-clip on the inner side of the tripod that needed to be pulled down (toward the outer cv) then the tripod was able to move forward down the shaft to reveal a tin clip that was mounted under the tripod.
after the tin clip was taken off the tri-pod could be pulled back off the shaft.
for a new tri-pod and a new outer c.v. with new boots, for 89. buxs
it is a deal. only one problem, the new eeuroparts axle needs to be disassembled and then reassembled on the old axle.
and just to put a small twist into things.....
here's where it gets ugly.
we know the passenger side axle is fine..... ((or is it))
after pulling the outer cv to place on the oem saab shaft everything went as clock work, however when i got around to place the tri-pod on the oem shaft.. well it seems eeuroparts supplier thought the need was there to change the shaft thread pattern on their new shafts for the inner tri-pod.
to best explain it think along the lines of (standard and metric bolt patterns)
although the axle shaft dose not have a bolt pattern what it dose have is straight threads or groves, think as the oem shaft and its groves are made in standard form, and all the parts from other suppliers (even eeuroparts) have the standard parts to fit the shaft.
the new eeuro axles have a metric thread pattern on the axle for the inner tri-pod. which make it so the tri-pod can not be fitted to the oem shaft.
and worse.... the passenger side is the right length for the car. problems are only to come,, many many days down the road when the car is in need of a new inner tri-pod, there will be none found to fit the non oem shaft with the metric thread pattern.
outer c.v. threads are the same but not the inner tripods.
so in the end all 89 buxs get you is a new outer cv. and two new boots,
might i add, made by the supplier that changed the thread pattern.
it would be better ordering all the parts from eeuro to rebuild your oem shaft. its allot quicker and im sure the parts are made with a bit more care, and to top it off free shipping.... dang i love that
