The only way I can think this would happen is that either the injectors got stuck open or the fuel pressure regulator got ruptured, and fuel was coming through the diaphragm and vacuum line, into the intake manifold.
The only way the injectors could be stuck open is if there was a pretty serious electrical malfunction, but since the fuel pump was running without the engine running, chances are you have one.
You need to use a manual transfer pump to suck fuel from the cylinders (remove the spark plugs) and the intake manifold. You also need to change the oil - I'm sure it's soaked in fuel by now.
