Alignment issues

Ok, I just finished replacing: steering rack, tie rod ends, ball joints, lower control arms AND bushings on my 1988 8v n/a. After all that, I obviously needed a wheel alignment, so I took it to the dealer. I just picked it up and the service manager informed me that although they were able to get it "pretty much" aligned, it was at it's limit. Apparently the computer was telling them to remove shims from the left side, but there weren't anymore shims to remove! The mechanic thought that it might need new UPPER control arms and bushings (his guess). The SM assured me that there wouldn't be any odd or excessive tire wear and that the steering was straight, but that the handling might seem a little "off". Well, it is. It just seems a bit loose to me. Nothing unsafe, just not quite right.
So what do you think, all you alignment gurus out there, UCAs and bushings? Or could it be something else? TIA
