When using a spilt boot as your doing, assemble the boot seam and glue while the boot is pull off the C/V joint and just on the axle shaft. After the glue has had time to set slide the whole boot onto the C/V joint and clamp into place. Fill "only" the C/V joint with the proper amount of moly grease and your set.
