The only other two things to bring this car up to winter standards that I did was to cut a hinged door through the back seat where the arm rest is. The back seat is plywood with reinforcement that you must cut through. I then added two small hinges and velcro across the top to keep the flap closed and flush when not needed. I had to move the seat cushion from the 84S model since the base did not have the arm rest.
I can slide my X country skis in and out easily or get two pairs of adult downhills through no problem. Kids skis will fit across the floor of the trunk. It means that four people can go skiing w/out a roof rack.
I always wondered why SAAB never added a ski boot like Volvo did or did not provide a 1/3/ 2/3 rear seat.
I also put back the headlamp wipers after the PO removed them. This was trickier than I thought because one motor had to be completely rebuilt - amazing how they work inside - and post 86 models - wipe in the opposite direction so same side replacements won't do. I also had to rewire the connection so I get four passes on the headlamp wipers when I press in the stalk- hard for ww fluid. I consider them essential for sleet and snow type weather.
