Look into lubing up the latch mechanism itself. Then also loosen its bolts from below (remove grill) and reposition it so it comes dead center under the cone-shaped locking pin that comes down from the hood, then retighten.
Put a little grease on the cone and, inside the latch works, on the two rods that open around it and close above it. Oil the mechanism of the latch while someone inside pulls on the cable to make it move and work the oil in.
The cable itself isn't adjustable but there is a cable stop, kind of a metal clip with torx screw thru it that clamps into the outside of the cable and holds it at appropriate distance from the latch. This is on underside of the metal crossmember, also reached with grill out of car. It sometimes gets pulled on so hard that that clip slips and cable pulls thru under it, cutting into the outer plastic jacket. Release clip, pull cable back so there's no slack, and re-tighten it.
Don't pull too hard on the handle inside the car. If the cable stop clamp is clamped down where it should be, the inside handle should have moved the latch works as far as they go well before reaching the end of its travel so pulling hard all the way at the end doesn't help hood pop up, only risks breaking the cable.
To remove grill, pop hood up a little and undo three torx screws in plastic tabs at top of grill, then pull it up and out and you can see and get at the latch locating screws and cable stop clamp.
