The original material was a very thin layer, basically just the felt without the foam. I replaced it on my 1986 900t some years back (car is long gone now). As I recall, it cost me about $140 from the dealer, as it is a custom-fit piece, with plastic devices at each end to slip over the edges of the sunroof. I don't think they're available any more. The tension of the material kept it stretched straight across the gap. Tension holds it in, it is NOT glued to the bottom of the sunroof.
Should you find one, and install it, do one thing I didn't - clean the ever living stuff out of the sunroof tray, the molding, anything that might come in contact with the material. If you don't, you'll end up with streaks on it first time you slide it back...
