I sometimes drive our 86 base model 8 valve, 5 speed, with 128K miles to work, and I think it's getting slower every time I drive it. I've owned the car for about 3 years, and it always starts right up and runs ok. So I'm wondering if they are all like this, or maybe it has some specific ailment that is slowing it down.

On my commute home, I need to go up a long (maybe 1.5 miles?) pretty steep hill coming out of Boston - Rte 2 from Cambridge heading West, in case anyone from MA is familiar with the area. I get a running start on the flat portion and get up to about 65 - which is top speed for this car on the flat (but it goes much faster down hill!). By the mid point of the hill, it has fallen to about 45 and I'm downshifting to 4th, and watching every other car fly by. I was even passed by a 70ish VW bus the other day!

I know these cars are not known for their speed, but does this sound right? If not, any ideas what might be slowing it down?
