I think those were Saab's internal P/Ns for the different turbos. In '88, they would be using the water cooled Garrett T3, which has is better for top end power & breathing, but you pay for it w/slower spooling.
I'm guessing the '89 has the Mitsubishi TE05-12B, which spools faster, but doesn't support the higher-RPMs like the T3 does...
