Does the 42 stamp on the turbo housing represent trim or AR Ratio? to elaborate: two sides to every unit....exhaust turbo and air compressor. The following applies to each side (the turbo and compressor sides typically have differet trim and AR characteristics) so here goes.... trim expresses the relationship between the inducer (diameter where air enters into the wheel) and the exducer (diameter where air exits the wheel). The AR Ratio (Area/Radius) expresses a characheristic of the wheel housing. This is the inlet cross-sectional area divided by the radius from the turbo centerline to the centriod of that area....think snail shell here; the cross-sectional diameter of the shell decreases as you get closer to the center of the shell....Anyway....lots to read about turbos...(and I could go on!) they are such a great way to utilize otherwise wasted exhaust energy.

To get to the point...the T3 will typicall kick in higher on the rpm curve...a bit more lag at low rpm as they take longer to spool but better power at higher rpm/speed. The Mitsu spools faster at lower rpm. Putters out at higher speed. Check out the turbo maps online for a better picture.
