question about rear spring seats and hub bearing info

So today I was having the rear hub on my 86 replaced because of a very loud B17 sound coming from the right rear. Both the mechanic and I took the car for a spin and with the other in the passenger seat we were both positive that it was the right rear. We even agreed after listening to the wheel rumble on the hoist that it was definitely the right side. So the new hub is installed and we take the car for a spin - Guess what?
The noise was still there. So we decide to take the hub just removed and install it on the left side and you know what? The sound went away. Spinning both hubs - the old defective one and the old sound one gave the identical feel so it was impossible to tell one was bad by rotating it or looking at its condition.
I know a stethoscope can be used but I am telling this more because of how much a bad bearing sound can carry through the axle and into the body and give completely misleading info.
Now for my question - while on the hoist my left rear sag became clearer to me - the seat upon which the spring presses was bent upwards so that the left rear drooped about an inch or so. Is there a simple repair for this? Mechanic said no point in installing new springs to fix a sag if the seats are no good. So I suggest to anyone who has a saggy rear end have your seats examined and don't automatically assume the springs are bad.
I was able to raise my left side using the twist in supports - they actually do work but I am looking for a more permanent fix like a shim that could be inserted between body and seat. Ideas?
