That convertibe was my first new car. I bought it in '86. I still have it and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. It has about 89K on it and has not even been on the road in 5 years. Never seen winter. It's got a 2.2 turbo engine in it and I've got a 2.5 intercooled turbo engine and race-built tranny that's supposed to go in one of these days. Even with all the performance work I've done to my Saabs, That car would blow the doors of them in a dead heat. It's up in the 300HP range right now. Those 80-90s era mini Mopars have a sh*tload of torque too. One of the reasons I'm going with a later-model minivan tranny is the larger-spline drive axles. The torque I have now will snap the OEM '86 axles. Chryser beefed things up around '92 for that reason. It's lacking in the handling department though. The Saab would leave it behind on a twisty road course. I think that's why my car of choice is the Saab right now.
I've also got a 1994 Dodge Dakota 4x4, a 1992 Saab 900T 3DHB, a 1994 900T Comm Ed Convt, a 1993 900T Comm Ed, a 1973 Opel GT (38K, my dad's old car) and a 2002 Volvo V70XC (need at least one reliable family car). Two other Saab convertibles I had around were hauled away last month. Every vehicle I own is black except the Opel GT--that's red. It sure stands out in the yard. :-D
No I'm not rich, not by a long shot. All the cars are late-model and I do most of the work on them myself. My grandfather was a mechanic, so wrenching on cars is in my blood.
I agree that the canvass boot would look real nice on the Saab. Please keep us posted on your progress.
