Hope the subject title didn't cause too much excitement. I thought I remembered seeing in the forums something about someone finding a replacement from another manufacturer (Volvo). Here is Nashvegas' writeup:
"AHA ! I found a source for new(ish) exterior window bottom seals. The ones that wipe the bottom of the window on the exterior of the car as the window goes up and down. These are NLA from Saab. And they're starting to get rotten on alot of c900s out there, letting water in the doors.
I went to the local euro pullapart to try and look at every car thinking someone must have used something similar in the 80's and 90's.
So -- Volvo 740 / 760. Exterior seals = no. But on the INTERIOR of the front doors of at least 88 to 93 or so 740/760's... there is a rubber wipe seal. After removal I noticed it's a dead ringer for the saab seal, even has the metal inside to keep its shape. And since it's been on the interior of a volvo, it's probably still supple and new. The only difference is that the saab seal has an additional rubber flap on it to cover the mounting clips, the volvo seal does not have this. But if you do the trick of filing off the side of the mounting clips (per saab TSB for scratching windows), it should be totally fine.
Aha. I'm pretty fired up about this find.
So -- I experimented. They're actually too long so you trim the ends off to the exact length for your c900 doors. And I replaced one on a junker c900 in the salvage yard as an experiment and the thing looked brand new. Fit perfectly. Since it's a salvage car I couldn't roll window up and down but from what I could tell it should be fine. I'm going to try it on my SPG this weekend.
Note: to take the metal bottom trim off DO NOT pry from the outside... roll the window down, remove interior door panel and pry up from the inside behind the window. The metal strip that holds this rubber strip should pop "up" and take the rubber seal with it. You can then replace it out of the car and re-install."
If anyone knows anything else, that would be great.
