no one can tell what your looking at, but if your pointing to the shifter shaft getting bind-ed up from a motor mount being rotted away well one thing you can do. with the hood up stand next to the motor, have your buddy put the e-brake on put the car in first gear and put load on the motor, not enough to peel the wheels just enough to know the motor is under strain, then have him/her release the strain (as in taking their foot off the gas) repeat these steps of putting strain releasing the strain.
while your standing next to the motor just watch as the motor pops up and down, your should witness very little move meant. if you see the motor wanting to jump out of the car you should not drive it until the mount is fixed, just because driving the car with this excsive destroyed mout can ruin another more valuable parts then just a mount.
it must be noted that what your asking is when no load is on the motor can it bind the shifter shaft, (if i interpreted right) then no.
physical strength will be able to push the shaft into place just because when the shaft enters the gearbox just on the inside of the metal ring is a plastic sround gasket that creates an very nice slippy slippy, if you know what i mean.
they this instead, while sitting in the driver set clutch in, car on put try pushing the stick forward, no fishing around to the left or right, if you push forward and the car goes into 3rd you got major prob.s as in pinion bearing or other internal gearbox issues, it wont be long before the gears lock up to make the car undriveable.
if when pushing forward on the shifter shaft you do not find 3rd and see you need to fish around to find it, a simple shifter shaft adjustment is needed.
hope this answered what your asking.
