Inner Tie rod removal question Posted by Bob_SAAB_101 [Email] (#460) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bob_SAAB_101) on Sat, 29 Nov 2008 07:46:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi
Is the inner tie rod difficult to remove?
I'm trying to replace the outer tie rod end due to a cracked boot. It wasn't dead yet but I figured with a cracked boot it would go soon.
Here is my problem. Due to rust , the thing won't come off. I tried PB Blaster, MAAP torch, and resorted to cutting the nut off with my Dremel. I figured once the lock nut was off I'd get the tie rod end off. Well, it won't give. I then proceeded to attempt cutting the tie rod end itself I cut several slits along the legnth and sprayed Blaster in the cracks, I even chipped a good chunk out but it still won't give. I've been working at this for 3\ days!
It occurred to me that maybe I could just take off the other side or inner along with the tie rod. Is this a problem job? I see nothing in the Bentley manual about it.
