It's like that joke about the twin engine airplane that looses an engine... how far will the other engine take the airplane? all the way to the scene of the crash...
So we race the 24 Hours of Lemons this last weekend. Either I didn't properly torque, or it backed out (but I suspect it was my fault so will take the hit) of the plate that holds the cluster receiver with the carrier onto the side of the transaxle, one of the bolts and at the end of the day the transmission was dry and making ugly noises. Impossible to find any gears other than 2nd and 5th. So I put FOUR quarts of mobil-1 in it and had my brother go out and he was able to, having only 5th gear, put another 20 laps in before it yanked the stick out of his hand. I was able to find reverse in the pits to position the car to put on the trailer, and actually found 2nd (briefy!) to drive the car up the ramps. But generally it's a bad thing to do!
