Well,
Changed out the cap and rotor yesterday, ran and started noticibly better right away. put a pulse ratio meter in the test plug and set the mixture at the fuel distributor. Had to replace the fuse for the test socket since it was missing all together. This verified that my 02 sensor is actually responding well. Turns out that based on the meter, the car wanted to be richer than I thought not leaner. So I set the mixture to just as rich as the 02 and the computer could handle. More power on acceleration, and it doesnt have the miss anymore. I still dont know if I have some sort of heat soak issue in that it has not been hot enough outside to replicate my stalling issue. I also put a timing light on the car and I was set at about 24 deg, I set it back to stock 20 deg just to see what happens, I have some detonation on occasion and I think I need to advance it some (the car has a 87 16v NA bottom end with a .075 shaved 8v head). This High C/R seems to need a little timing. Now there is a new issue, but its at start up, smells of gas and backfires into the air filter housing for 30 seconds or so then clears up. I am tending to think that the warm up regulator or cold start injector is the next place to look. It seems to happen regardless of the temp of the engine. Maybe a faulty thermo time switch? Im getting there so keep up the chatter.
